Hotel New-Hire Onboarding Checklist (Day 1–7)
A printable day-by-day onboarding checklist for hotel new hires — built backwards from a Day-4 supervised shift.
Use this checklist as a starting point for any front-of-house role. It's built backwards from one goal: a safe, supervised shift by Day 4.
Before Day 1
- HRIS record created (role, property, state)
- Learning path assigned (role + state mandates)
- SMS magic link sent — first lessons available on their phone
- Uniform, locker, and system credentials ready
Day 1 — Orientation
- Property tour with department manager
- Orientation course: brand standards, the 10/5 Rule
- Meet the team; assign a training buddy
- Safety basics: evacuation routes, incident reporting
Day 2 — Role fundamentals
- Core role courses (PMS basics for front desk; room standards for housekeeping)
- Compliance lessons that must precede floor work (PCI, food handler as applicable)
- Shadow one full shift segment — observing, not working
Day 3 — Guided practice
- Hands-on practice with the training buddy
- Complete role quizzes; remediation micro-lessons for any below threshold
- Supervisor walkthrough of the trickiest daily scenario
Day 4 — Supervised shift
- Work a real shift with a supervisor present
- Skill validations signed off on the floor
- End-of-shift debrief: what felt shaky?
Days 5–7 — Consolidation
- Remaining path courses (deeper procedures, edge cases)
- Second supervised shift, lighter supervision
- State-mandate certifications completed and logged
- Week-one review with manager; path completion confirmed
In LMS Systems, this entire sequence auto-assigns on hire — the checklist runs itself.
